Direct Care & Pricing

Why did Dr. Abuav choose the Direct Patient Care model?

This is a modern practice model that Dr. Abuav is passionate about. It inspires strong doctor-patient relationships because bureaucracy is blocked. How? Dr. Abuav has opted out of Medicare and discontinued contracts with private insurance companies.

A direct care model is simple. It is no more complicated than eating at your favorite restaurant. You stop in, get service, and you pay for it. Direct patient care practices operate much the same way. No hidden fees, no surprise bills, no co-pays or insurance cards. Just straightforward medical care when you need it. This is NOT a concierge model. There is NO membership fee.
Direct care models are free market based. In a free market, no one forces people to buy a product, nor does it tell consumers where to buy it or how they must use it. Why should it be different with healthcare? And yet it is different in the traditional medical model.

Direct care models decrease costs by cutting out the overhead that comes with insurance companies and regulations. Prices can be kept reasonably low and transparent because of lower overhead costs. Prices are published on this website, so that you can make an informed decision.

Dr. Abuav DOES believe that medical insurance is beneficial but feels that we have lost sight of the proper place for insurance. Like car, life and disability insurance, the role of medical insurance should be reserved for large, expensive, and catastrophic events- not typical day-to-day care. Could you imagine using your car insurance to pay for gas, oil changes or new tires? The result would be unaffordable car insurance costs, lack of price transparency, over-utilization of services and subsequent insurance control of the care of your vehicle. This is exactly what has transpired in medicine.

The direct care model type of practice model allows Dr. Abuav to spend more quality time face-to-face with patients. There is less time waiting for your appointment. You can often book a same-day or next day appointment, and you will be seen at your appointment time. Your time is valuable, and Dr. Abuav appreciates that.

Pricing:

Note to Medicare Patients: All Medicare patients will need to sign a ”Medicare Private Contract” every 2 years while under Dr. Abuav’s care.  This contract demonstrates understanding that Dr. Abuav is non-partipating in all Medicare programs, and that no reimbursement for services may be sought through Medicare.  Unfortunately, Dr. Abuav may not see Medicare patients if this contract is not signed.

Flexibility in lab fees: You have options. You may use your insurance for bloodwork and pathology fees, or we have deeply discounted cash fees. Self-pay, uninsured, and patients with high deductibles benefit most from this flexibility.

Credit Card Processing fees:  In order for Dr. Abuav to keep her prices low, she has contracted with CardX for card processing. CardX charges 3% credit card acceptance fee for the convenience of using a credit card. There is no additional fee for debit card, FSA, HSA debit cards, cash or personal check payments.

Good Faith Estimate:

  • You have the right to receive a “Good Faith Estimate” explaining how much your medical care will cost.
  • Under the law, health care providers need to give patients who don’t have insurance or who are not using insurance an estimate of the bill for medical items and services.
  • You have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate for the total expected cost of any non-emergency items or services. This includes related costs like medical tests, prescription drugs, equipment, and hospital fees.
  • Make sure your health care provider gives you a Good Faith Estimate in writing at least 1 business day before your medical service or item. You can also ask your health care provider, and any other provider you choose, for a Good Faith Estimate before you schedule an item or service.
  • If you receive a bill that is at least $400 more than your Good Faith Estimate, you can dispute the bill.
  • Make sure to save a copy or picture of your Good Faith Estimate.

For questions or more information about your right to a Good Faith Estimate, visit www.cms.gov/nosurprises or call 877-696-6775.

Flair is the best hair and beauty salon in the city, hands down! I've been to many salons, but none of them had the same professionalism and touch as Isabella's team. Highly recommended.
