About Dr. Abuav

Dr. Rachel Abuav is a board-certified dermatologist practicing in Beverly Hills with a passion for quality patient care and a very big passion for complex medical dermatology. In addition to medical adult and pediatric dermatology, Dr. Abuav offers many surgical treatments as well as cosmetic services. Dr. Abuav has spent the last 19 years in academic practices, first at Johns Hopkins University and then, for the past 12 years, at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center. In 2022, she founded her private “micro” practice in Beverly Hills with a very clear message: High quality, patient-centered medical, surgical, and cosmetic dermatology. In Dr. Abuav’s office, you will find yourself in a confidential, peaceful environment where you will have Dr. Abuav’s undivided attention.

To deliver patient-centered care, Dr. Abuav has adopted a direct-care practice model. Her practice model puts patients at the center of their care and eliminates distractions from insurance companies and government regulations. Dr. Abuav is dedicated to working directly with and for her patients and not a third party. Dr. Abuav’s Biography Dr. Abuav grew up in the U.S. and Israel. She attended college at Northwestern University and medical school in New York City at Weill Cornell Medical College. She spent an intensive year in a prestigious research fellowship at the Rockefeller University, through a grant from the Howard Hughes Medical Institution. She did her dermatology residency at The Johns Hopkins University. While on faculty at Johns Hopkins, Dr. Abuav worked alongside the Department of Rheumatology to increase the depth of her knowledge of autoimmune diseases. She remained at Johns Hopkins as Assistant Professor of Dermatology for 3 years. During that time, she continued to care for patients with autoimmune disease, as well as those with skin diseases associated with cancer treatment. At Johns Hopkins Hospital, she became one of the nation’s first Dermatology Hospitalists. In 2010, she joined the Cedars-Sinai Medical Group Department of Dermatology and obtained academic appointments as Assistant Professor in the Departments of Medicine and Pathology & Laboratory Medicine at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center. She continues to have academic appointments at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center.

As a board-certified dermatologist, Dr. Abuav has become an expert in autoimmune diseases, including pemphigus, bullous pemphigoid, lupus, and dermatomyositis, to name a few. Throughout her career, she has continued to teach the next generation of physicians. She has published numerous peer-reviewed articles and book chapters on autoimmune disorders and a variety of other dermatologic conditions. She has presented at multiple meetings and continues to speak at patient-centered conferences. Her research is ongoing and has been funded by several research grants over the years. She is currently on the Medical Advisory Board for Lupus LA, a foundation dedicated to helping those suffering with lupus. She is a member of the American Academy of Dermatology, American Contact Dermatitis Society, the International Pemphigus & Pemphigoid Foundation, and the Los Angeles Metropolitan Dermatologic Society.

Dr. Abuav’s interests include the complete spectrum of general adult and pediatric dermatologic conditions. She has developed deep relationships with the best rheumatologists in Southern California, which has allowed her to provide comprehensive effective treatments for many autoimmune conditions. She has almost 20 years’ experience with prescribing and managing systemic therapies and “thinking outside of the box” regarding complex medical conditions. In addition to autoimmune disorders, Dr. Abuav has taken a very special interest in tackling the common problem of allergic contact dermatitis. As a member of the American Contact Dermatitis Society, she performs very detailed patch testing and provides comprehensive counseling on allergen avoidance strategies. She has experience performing thousands of surgical and cosmetic procedures, including skin cancer surgery, cosmetic mole removals, laser resurfacing, chemical peels, microneedling, platelet rich plasma (PRP) injections for rejuvenation and hair loss, injectable soft tissue fillers and neuromodulators (Botox®, Dysport®). Dr. Abuav remains active in her education and continues to further her knowledge with the most up-to-date medical, surgical, and cosmetic dermatology treatments.

On a personal note, Dr. Abuav lives in Los Angeles with her husband and her 2 kids. While not practicing medicine, she enjoys gardening, skiing, SCUBA diving, hiking, running, and exploring the world.
